2009 - 2010
February 09, 2010 As far as grooming: we are running about 5 days a week average in the LOW area. Fish Lake and Hyatt Lake does not have enough snow for us to groom without inviting more 4x4's deeper into the trail system. I know some of our grooming is not the best, but we are doing what we can with such warm, heavy, water soaked snow. In Jan we groomed nearly 475 miles and total todate is over 700 miles for the club.
January 8, 2010 The weather has not been kind to us groomers. We finally received enough snow to get the cats out of the parking lots near Christmas and we ran hard trying to get things opened for New Years. We had a great 10 days and was able to see most trails at least once in the Lake of the Woods and Fish Lake areas. However, since then we have had either clear sky's or rain. Either way we have had many days of NO freezing temperatures. As warm as the snow is at the moment we do more damage working the snow that if we stay off of it. I know the trails are getting rough and in many cases there is extremely thin snow if snow at all. On Jan 8th, we are opening up Pelican Butte for the first time and I expect the crews to have much difficulty in producing a good trail as the snow will be warm, sticky and soft. Unfortunately following the run on Jan 8th, we will not be doing much more grooming until the weather improves. If this weather does not improve we will be looking to conduct trail maintenance runs that we could use mush help from everyone. This work includes taking the cat and working on trimming the over head branches out of the trees to keep them out of the windshield of the cat. More information will be coming about this as it is available. Please, Please! Start your snow dances as it will be a rough summer if this continues.
