OSSA District 5 Club Report, by Scott Blower: February 2010 John Day Convention 1.The overall convention was a great time. A few highlights were, Sen Greg Walden visited on Sat and had lunch with us and was able to operate a Tucker and ride snowmobiles. According to Dennis Jordan he was able to become comfortable to kick it up and sail down the trail and had a great time out. At the auction with dinner, John Gardner once again pretended to be the auctioneer and worked so hard that he even sold the shirt off his back to raise a total of $4k for the legal action fund. 2.At Fridays meeting, it was the same old boring news, but Saturdays meeting was very informative and a lot of information was shared back and forth between clubs. One of the best OSSA meetings that Ive been to. We were able to elect Dobe as the Director At Large for this district. Upcoming District 5 Event 1. We have the snow currently to keep the Great Meadow open and we are expecting to receive new snow each day this week. No record amount, but we are grooming and will have the trails ready for the weekend. State Bill HB3636 This bill was introduced prior to the start of the current special session. Thanks to a rally of support last week we have curved this bill. It proposed to eliminate all reserve accounts that the State of Oregon has. This would empty the reserves that we currently have in the snow park plowing fund and also our trail grooming fund. Currently this bill has died as we as snowmobiliers across the spoke loud enough for the politicians to realize the overall effects of this bill and how we as bi-standards were going to be harmed. This bill was also tied to the Senate bill to address the kicker issue. We as OSSA are watching the current session, but ask you to also watch and listen to what is happening in Salem as these types of things can happen very fast. If you hear of something or want more information, do not hesitate to contact Scott Blower.
